What do You want People to feel?
“I want people to pause, look and feel. In a world where we constantly move from one image to another, I want my work to create a moment of stillness—an opportunity to observe something that might otherwise go unnoticed. I want the viewer to experience curiosity first, and then allow their own emotions, memories and experiences to enter the work.
A photograph may evoke different feelings in different people, and I value that personal interpretation. Sometimes I want the viewer to feel wonder, tenderness or nostalgia. At other times, perhaps reflection, silence, questioning or even a sense of unease. I am less interested in telling the viewer exactly what to feel and more interested in creating a space where they can discover their own response. Most importantly, I want people to look at the familiar differently—to discover beauty, meaning and stories within ordinary things. If my work makes someone stop for a moment and see the world with a little more curiosity and sensitivity, I feel the work has communicated.”
