Artist Pierrette Ambassa Atangana
She trained at the *Institut de Formation Artistique* (IFA) in Mbalmayo, where she earned an AF1 artistic diploma specializing in ceramics, before continuing her studies at the University of Yaoundé I.
From a young age, Pierrette distinguished herself through the precision of her lines and her sensitivity to contemporary issues. Her career took on an international dimension when she won First Prize at the 16th International Environmental Children’s Drawing Contest—a prestigious competition that highlighted her commitment to the environment. She further demonstrated her talent by winning the 2024 Olympic Games project organized by IMAJ (a UNESCO-affiliated center).
Her work has led to exhibitions around the world: in Japan (starting in 2016), in Troyes, France (2024 and 2025), in South Korea (via an online exhibition in 2025), and in Cairo, Egypt, as part of the *Oscar Magazine International Artists for Peace* exhibition themed "No to Violence."
In Cameroon, she is an active participant in the local art scene, notably in the *Sous l’Arbre* exhibitions and a group show featuring the poignant theme "Bleeding Promises" (*Les promesses qui saignent*). Committed to sharing her craft, she also leads ceramics workshops for children and adults at the MÛSA Cultural Center.
Recently nominated by IMAJ/UNESCO for a work focused on peace, she was named Ambassador for BIAF 2026/2027, thereby cementing her role as a major, socially engaged figure in contemporary African art. She is also participating in the *Agia Napa Biennale 2026*
🎨 What would You like to bring to the Community?
” I would like to bring my vision as a Cameroonian artist to the WAAW community: a vision rooted in African cultural heritage yet open to universal dialogue. I wish to share my experience with symbolic, contemporary painting that explores human consciousness, as well as lead workshops on art as a vehicle for resilience and peace. I also want to use my voice to connect emerging artists from Central Africa with WAAW’s global network and help showcase African creativity as a force for healing and unity.”
