MEET THE ARTIST
David Nativel is a sculptor from Réunion Island. His work gives new life to metal and reclaimed materials, transforming them into contemporary sculptures with slender, expressive lines.
Through his sculptures, he explores humanity, nature, movement, memory, and the connections that unite us. Combining the strength of metal with the poetry of form, his artistic universe seeks to evoke emotion while leaving each viewer free to interpret the work in their own way.
His artistic journey is increasingly open to the international art scene through exhibitions and creative collaborations around the world. A touch of blue, gradually becoming his signature, appears in some of his creations as a symbol of hope, light, and openness.
David Nativel likes to sum up his artistic approach with one simple idea: transforming metal into poetry.
THE ARTIST VOICE
What does art mean to you?
“For me, art is a way of giving a soul to matter. I love taking cold metal—sometimes rusty, forgotten, or destined for the trash—and giving it a new story. Sculpting means transforming material, but also expressing what words cannot always say.”
What do you want people to feel?
“I don’t necessarily seek to impose an emotion or a particular interpretation. I would simply like my sculptures to make people pause for a few seconds and awaken something within them: an emotion, a memory, a question… or simply the desire to dream.
If someone walks away with their own story after looking at one of my works, then, for me, the sculpture has fulfilled its purpose.”
