Galla Abdel Fatah grew up in Russia and studied Russian fine arts at the Surikov School. For many years, Galla did not turn to Egyptian themes in painting, but the roots have powerful forces. Their awareness led to a new turn in the artist’s work. In her works, Galla combines the static nature of ancient Egyptian frescoes and the realism of modern European painting. On the canvases the ancient brightness of gold and azure comes to life in a new way, the mysterious hot mystical Africa fills the canvas.
Beauty, plasticity of the body, expressiveness, and outright theatricality – are the main features of her paintings. In addition to paintings stylized as Egyptian frescoes, Galla paints magical portraits of beautiful women with cats. Galla explains this by saying, “A woman and a cat are so close. The cat is the Egyptian goddess Bast, the mistress of beauty, dance, and joy, this is so closely connected with a woman. Probably this is the theme of a woman going through reincarnation, through different images of beauty.”
